Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Advanced Classes
Master certifications—Cataphracts, Guardians, Elephant Riders, Dragoons, and late exam gates.
Advanced masters after the August 4, 2026 Direct
Once your Beginner Classes core and Specialty Classes toolkit can clear mid Heroic Games brackets, Fortune’s Weave opens Advanced certifications—jobs Nintendo calls masters of their skills. This page focuses on that top band as of the August 4, 2026 Direct. Launch is September 17, 2026 on Switch 2; exam numbers below remain provisional.

Specialty versus Advanced (read this first)
| Band | Official framing | Showcase examples |
|---|---|---|
| Specialty | Over ten classes with specific abilities | Armored knights, wing soldiers, Charioteers |
| Advanced | Masters of their skills | Cataphracts, Guardians, Elephant Riders, Dragoons |
Specialty is the mid tier where most competitive Games rosters stabilize—walls, obstacle leaps, and straight-line multi-hits. Advanced is the mastery tier with hybrid horse-armor Cataphracts, white-magic spear Guardians, giant Elephant Riders, and Dragoons called out in August press. Do not treat “Advanced” as a synonym for “anything past Beginner.” Mid-tier planning belongs on Specialty Classes; this page is for late exams and capstone identities.
Confirmed Advanced masters
Cataphracts
Cataphracts combine horse mobility with heavy armor—official Advanced pitch language. They answer open-field skirmishes on the Dagda map and bunker-style Games defense in one silhouette. Natural late goals after horse-leaning Specialty lines. Spears often carry anti-cavalry effectiveness in Fortune’s Weave coverage, so pack answers even when your Cataphract looks unkillable on paper.
Guardians
Guardians are skilled with white magic and spears—hybrid heal and pierce duty. Speculative glue for Theodora or Leda turns that need a safe adjacent partner, and a clean anti-cavalry poke tool when enemy mounts flood a bracket. They sit beside Bishop-style clergy rows shown in certification UI coverage rather than replacing Specialty armor walls.
Elephant Riders
Elephant Riders fight astride giant mounts—a standout Advanced showpiece and a first for mainline Fire Emblem war-elephant fantasy. Direct roundups notably showed series merchant Anna in the class, underscoring that exotic mounts are not limited to a single story lord. Expect huge tactical footprints as moving walls or shock pieces; assume anti-mount weapons and magic will exist to check them. Exact movement, canto, and terrain rules are unreleased—deep dive on Mounts & Ornius.
Dragoons
August press coverage of higher tiers also highlights Dragoons among the sick-looking special units opened by Specialty and Advanced paths. Treat Dragoons as confirmed Advanced-adjacent mastery fantasy from Direct reporting, not as a fully documented skill card: weapon locks, flight versus cavalry rules, and exam gates were not published line-by-line. When menus ship, fold Dragoon details here rather than inventing arts lists.
Advanced names shown in certification UI coverage
Reputable Direct breakdowns also recorded Advanced exam entries resembling classic caps:
| Shown name | Rough series analogue | Notes from UI coverage |
|---|---|---|
| Shido | Swordmaster-like | Sword primary focus |
| Sniper | Sniper | Bow mastery |
| Forest Knight | Bow Knight-like | Mounted bow path |
| Dreadnought | Fortress Knight-like | Heavy Armor primary; Axe/Spear secondaries |
| Bardinger | Paladin-like | Mounted primary; Spear/Sword secondaries |
| Ovate | Warlock-like | Black Magic primary |
| Bishop | Bishop | Faith/heal clergy |
Coverage also cited ideal character level ~35, Renown ~Lv8, and ranked skill gates (for example Mounted C with Spear/Sword B on Bardinger-style rows). Treat every letter rank as subject to day-one tuning.
Certification Exams in practice
Between Heroic Games matches you speak to an exam proctor in Dagsion. Success is not guaranteed—raise recommended skills first, schedule Arena days on the calendar, and keep a backup unit ready if a favorite fails. Materials from dungeons and world-map towns fund the weapons those Advanced jobs demand.
Fortuna’s Blessing (battle rewind) lets you experiment with aggressive Advanced deployments without permanent routing, but it does not refund a failed exam attempt—budget calendar turns accordingly. If Specialty already wins your current bracket, wait; an early Dreadnought that starves your inventory may lose to a well-itemized Specialty armored knight.
How Advanced kits interact with signature systems
Upper classes exist to amplify—not replace—the combat pillars covered on Combat:
- Combat Arts — durability-cost spikes; Advanced weapons often enable the arts you actually want to spam.
- Blaze Arts — Hero HP skills still define swings; Cataphracts and Guardians are speculative bodyguards for those moments.
- Blaze Gauge / Burst — midpoint boost is tempting; full Burst halves max HP. High-bulk Advanced armor can cushion mistakes better than glass fliers—until Burst deletes that cushion.
- Gambits, Crests, Hero’s Relics — return as formation and bloodline multipliers; Advanced jobs that share Relic weapon types will matter once inventories are fully listed.
- Blessings — Temple Row boons stack on top of class defenses.
Role planning for the four Heroes and Eshmel
During the Games era you commit to Cai, Dietrich, Theodora, or Leda paths (progress can be pursued in parallel). Later, Sothis charges Eshmel against demon god Balor, with Fortuna time travel tying destinies together. Advanced certifications earned “in the past” are therefore long-term army investments.
Speculative pairings (not official):
- Cai AoE Blaze → finishers after Specialty Charioteer lines; Ovate for magical follow-up; Cataphract screens.
- Dietrich warp → wing Specialty continuity into Forest Knight, Bardinger, or Dragoon mobility.
- Theodora snipes → Guardians and armored Specialty screens.
- Leda support/summon → Bishop/Guardian backlines and Elephant Rider novelty cores.
Compare these ideas on the Tier List and Hero pages under Characters, including Eshmel.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers grounded in what Nintendo has revealed so far.
What is the difference between Specialty and Advanced?
Specialty is the mid tier with over ten focused classes (armor, wings, chariots, and more). Advanced classes are masters such as Cataphract, Guardian, Elephant Rider, and Dragoon with higher exam gates. See Specialty Classes for the mid band.
What Advanced classes are confirmed?
Nintendo explicitly cites Cataphracts, Guardians, and Elephant Riders. August press also highlights Dragoons among higher-tier special units. Certification UI coverage showed names like Shido, Sniper, Forest Knight, Dreadnought, Bardinger, Ovate, and Bishop.
What level do Advanced exams want?
Direct UI coverage suggested ideal levels around 35 and Renown near level 8, plus ranked skills. Confirm in-game—these are pre-release observations.
Is Elephant Rider real?
Yes. Advanced materials highlight elephant riders on giant mounts; Anna has been shown in the class in Direct footage coverage.
Should I skip Specialty and rush Advanced?
Usually no. Specialty already supplies walls, leaps, and line clears for mid brackets. Rush Advanced only when you need a mastery package and your calendar can absorb a failed exam.
Where do I learn mount details?
See Mounts & Ornius under Classes, and cross-link Combat for how mounted weapons interact with effectiveness arrows.
